Betty's Rock, Finally

Here's a photo of Mary at Betty's Rock, taken last Sunday. We took this short, 1,200 yards total, walk after we finished Limberlost last weekend. The "hike" is less than 20 minutes, depending on how long you linger at the overlook - so this is not a destination hike to be the sole purpose of a visit to the Park.

Last August we tried to take this one in, but we were turned back by bears - a mother and two cubs. So, it was unfinished business and we decided to do it as an add-on on Sunday.

Betty's Rock is part of a layer of granite outcroppings that extends between Hawksbill and Stonyman - the trailhead is at the Crescent Rock Overlook, which is the setting off point for Crescent Rock as well. This rocky ridge is visible from our part of the valley along Ida Road, which is one of our scenic "back ways" into Luray when we go to town. The ridgeline ducks into a notch here so from the valley you have this long perspective view.

When we reached the destination, we got up to take a look around, and were pleased to be able to clearly see Jordan Hollow and Marksville down there. These landmarks are in the immediate neighborhood of the cabin. Clicking on the vista picture, you may be able to make out the red roofs of Jordan Hollow close to the feet of the mountains, just to the Southwest.

Ha! I just noticed that you have Greek-y words in your profile here under your picture. Very classy.

What, no Русские слова?

Ha! And I thought you had done that on purpose.

Oh, well, Καλύτερη τύχη αύριο. (Kinda translation: Better luck next time.)
