It's a Full Pool

When we began planning our trip to the cabin last weekend, we knew that Saturday was going to be a workday. Daris – Uncle D – had told us he’d be out early to check on the new liner installation and prepare the pool for the next step, filling it with water.

The day started early for me as there was a storm at 5:30 in the morning and all the canines in the house at the time have thunderstorm anxieties. So I was up with them hiding out in the “safe room” – getting up that early and then getting them settled in for an hour long storm put me out of commission for most of the morning.

Sure enough, at 8:30 or so, Uncle D arrived along with a colleague driving a truck with a 1,000+gallon tank of water. The first photo, above, is of them as they began the filling operation. Each truckload was giving us about 6 inches of depth, so it was clear we probably had a full day ahead.

The progress shot below is about 6 truckloads into the day.

Thirteen truckloads later – that works out to something like 15,000 gallons of water, we had a full pool. That milestone was reached at around 5pm, so our whole day was spent hanging around waiting for truckloads of water.

The good thing here is that the water in the pool lasts for years - especially now that the pool is lined. During the course of the repairs, Uncle D tells us that neighbors stopped by to talk about the pool, saying, "that pool always leaked," or "they always had to top it off."

Last photo here is of Mary enjoying the cold, cold water. The temperature of Stanley town water is 40 degrees when it comes out of the pipes, and the water needs filtering, so there was no way she was going all the way in.

Hopefully, that will be next week, when the electricity is hooked up to the filter and the water has warmed up!
